Why Can't Jets Fans Have Nice Things

So Jamal Adams has gone public with requesting a trade.......

My brother sent me this news in the middle of a workout. Took me a second to process it all but then my reaction was an easy one......

Okay so enough of me trying to make light of this situation. The question is, where do the Jets and Jamal Adams go from here? It's quite simple: either they mend fences & work out a deal or the Jets trade him. A lot has gone on between Adams & the Jets since last year & personally I've been torn throughout all of it. I'm not going to use this post to bash how both sides have handled this, I will save that for another post if need be. Right now, I'm more focused on what can be done.

Jamal Adams is easily the Jets BEST player on the team & is a top defensive player in the NFL. He is a homegrown talent & someone the Jets should build around. He has outperformed his contract, & deserves to get paid like one of the top defensive players in the league.

However, the Jets still have him under team control for 3 more season, with 2 years left on his rookie deal plus 1 year on the franchise tag. The Jets simply do not have to pay him now & in fact it makes sense. With Dr. Faucci going on TV every other day flip flopping whether or not COVID-19 is going to come back, Roger Goodell definitely has it in the back of his mind that there could potentially be a shortened season or no season at all. Also, what if fans can't go to the games for the majority of the year? All of that would cause league revenue to skyrocket down which in turn will lower next year's salary cap. Not knowing what the salary cap will look like definitely hampers any contract extensions for any player, not just Jamal.

With a lot of questions about next season still not being answered, I can see why the Jets are holding out on paying Jamal. Hopefully they work it out & Joe Douglas stays true to his word & makes Jamal Adams a Jet for life. But being that this is the Jets we are talking about & the fact that they can never have nice things, these are the offers I thought of if Joe Douglas were to shop him:

Dallas

1) Zack Martin & '21 2nd

2) CeeDee Lamb & '21 1st

Jacksonville

Yannick Ngakoue & '21 1st

Atlanta

Julio Jones & '21 2nd

Again those are all just a thought. And yes, I know Jamal has put out a list of teams he'd like to be traded to, but he has ZERO leverage when it comes to where he'd be traded to.

To end this, I really do hope Jamal Adams is a Jet for life. He has been nothing but stellar on the field & has been one of, if not the best player the Jets have had in quite some time. I also can't even begin to think about the amount of texts I'll receive from my friends, who aren't Jets fans, making fun of the fact that the Jets traded away Jamal Adams. Hopefully that doesn't happen, but if it does, I'm just going to turn my phone off. #TakeFlight
