Thoughts on the Season: Special Teams

Continuing with my thoughts on the 2019-2020 season, I look at the special teams because well, you can't forget about them. I break it down by position groups & focus on the starters, with a sprinkle of some reserves. To end it, I break down the offense as a whole. Enjoy!
K: Just like the OL, this unit was a DISATER. Kaare Vedkik couldn't hit the broadside of a barn, & shouldn't be anywhere near an NFL roster ever again. Good lord I'm getting heated just thinking about his Week 1 embarrassment. Sam Ficken was alright. He did hit the game winner against the Dolphins, but he still missed a few gimmes that made me want to pull my hair out (and I have great hair, humble brag).
P: Some people don't like him, but I like Lachlan Edwards. Now I'm not saying I'm going to custom make his jersey anytime soon, but I think he gets the job done. His average & net average are right around league norm & other than one or two blunders a year, he gets the job done.
KR: Good but not great. I think with the NFL now, I'd rather the kick returners just kneel it & have the offense take it at the 25. Too many times last year the Jets would get a dumb penalty on a return which pushed the offense back. Vyncint Smith did have that one nice 79 yard return, but other than that, this unit was just eh.
PR: My dad refers to Braxton Berrios as, "Mr. Fair Catch", but that's because he's numb inside from being a Jets fan for so many years (love you dad). Me personally, I think Braxton does an outstanding job as the punt returner. He knows not to be daring & call for the fair catch if he sees nothing there. But when he has a chance to return it, he makes plays. His average return of 11.4 yards is up there & is definitely a game changer, something the Jets always needs.
Closing Thoughts: Other than the kicking fiasco, I think special teams was solid this past season. I did not even comment on the block punts & kicks, but even without commenting on it, I like what I saw from the special teams as a whole. A lot of credit goes to Brant Boyer (more on him later), but the players as well did their job. #TakeFlight
