Thoughts on the Season: Coaching

Continuing with my thoughts on the 2019-2020 season, I look at the coaching. I break it down by each coach. To end it, I break down the entire staff. Enjoy!
Head Coach: If you follow me on Twitter, you know I am not a fan of Adam "Offensive Genius" Gase. When he was first hired, I wasn't going to be one of those fans that immediately hated it & wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. With that being said, it didn't take me too long into the season to want him gone. He all but gave up on the team when Darnold was out with mono (again I won't talk about those games) & did not adjust to his teams strengths at all. Watching the games you can tell, it's his way or the highway. Yes, you can say that works with Bill Belichick, but he has the rings to back it up, Gase doesn't even have a career winning record. More than once I had to hear, "Fit Adam Gase's system", but honestly whats is his system? He did not play to Lev Bell or Darnold's strengths & rather try to make them fit into what he wanted to do, but how did that work? The offense was at its best during the season when he fixed the offense to both of their strengths, but once word got out that Darnold went to him about the offense, the ego-maniac that he is went right back to his old ways. I can go on & on about how bad I think Gase is, but I think I'll save it for a later post (more to come).
Offensive Coordinator: There really is nothing to say about Dowell Loggains other than he's Gase's "Yes Man" & does a great job throwing the challenge flag. That's it, he brings nothing else to the table.
Defensive Coordinator: Gregg Williams, WOW what a job this season. With the amount of players that he lost, & for the CB's he had at first (again, so glad they're gone) he made the best out of it (can't say the same about the head coach). He changed his system up (again can't say that about you know who) to his players strengths & wasn't afraid to bench players that weren't producing, no matter how much money they made (Trumaine) or how high they were drafted (Leo). You can say that he was the TRUE head coach of this team & you can tell that the players respect & play hard for him.
Special Teams: Brant Boyer did a great job & is definitely one of the better special teams coordinators in the game. Other than the kicking nightmare, his unit was very strong & produced a bunch of big plays throughout the season. It would not surprise me in a few years if he is getting head coaching interviews.
Closing Thoughts: It was not a great first year for Adam Gase. Like I said, he gave up on this team & that is something that can't happen. I won't go in further because I will save it for another post. Forgetting about the offense, the defense & special teams did an above & beyond job this season. Both these units held their own & kept the Jets in plenty of games. Honestly, Jets fans, this season could have been a 4-12/3-13 season without Williams & Boyer working hard & getting the best out of their units. #TakeFlight
