Thoughts on the Season: Overall

My next few posts I'm going to break down this past season. Tonight I will just give my thoughts on the season as a whole & then break it down further with thoughts on the offense, defense, special teams (can't forget about them), coaching, & management. So away we go:

Like every season, I had hope going into it. But for some reason, this season I had a little more than usual. So much so that I put an Instagram post up about it & bought tickets to two games (CLE & PHI). The offense looked sharp during the preseason & the thought of having a creative/somewhat dynamic offense to go along with a solid defense brought me excitement. Knowing the schedule that the Jets had, hope for the playoffs was there.

It took approximately one game for all my hope of the playoffs to vanish. With injuries to Mosley & Q to go along with Darnold's battle with mono, it was a complete dumpster fire before the second game was even played. I've tried to erase weeks 2-5 from my brain because of how inept the offense looked (more on that in later posts). So that's all I'm going to say regarding those three games, two of which I unfortunately attended (Bud Lights got me through them).

Yes, when Darnold came back there were some very solid wins (DAL, OAK, PIT) & of course beating the Giants is always fun (2x Snoopy Bowl Champs). But the bad loses (MIA/CIN) were BAD & I won't even talk about the Patriots "Ghost Game" (typical ESPN beating something into the ground. Remember 'Butt Fumble').

Of course the Jets won 3 of their last 4 to end up 7-9 & then proceed to hype up how they "finished strong". But for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in a decade, that's not good enough. Jets fan shouldn't be celebrating because they "finished strong". We as a dedicated fan base should be celebrating when they have a winning season (Haven't since '15-'16) & make the playoffs (Haven't since '10-'11). Finishing strong while still having a losing record & missing the playoffs is a losers mentality, & I for one won't stand for it.

So for me, this past season was a failure. Yea I liked how Darnold rebounded from mono & ghosts and showed some progression & I liked how the defense stepped up as well. But I'm done with losing records & I'm done with my beloved team missing the playoffs. With the schedule they had, the playoffs were attainable, even without Darnold for three games (more on that with the Coaching blog). You may think I'm being a tad harsh, but like I've said, I'm done celebrating losing records & "finishing strong". No more Gatorade baths for finishing 8-8 (I'm still embarrassed by that). I want better for this franchise that I love & I hope you all do too. #TakeFlight
