Welcome back Jets Nation!!

Now that the draft has come and gone, we look at the next major aspect for the Jets this season. The offseason program has begun as virtual training programs are taking place. On Thursday, the NFL released its schedule for the upcoming season, despite speculation of COVID-19 putting a halt on the games. The Jets are coming off a 7-9 season in which they finished on a strong note with a 6-2 record.

With all the debate regarding Adam Gase’s future with the team, one silver lining to remember is with a limited offseason and lack of clarity regarding when players will be able to return to facilities, continuity will benefit the Jets. Darnold will be entering Year 2 in Gase’s system. Granted this is a system which has consistently showed mediocrity, it will be beneficial to Sam to remain in the same system rather than having to learn a new system with a restricted offseason program.

Week 1: At Bills

Redemption game for the Jets. After losing to Bills week one last year on some bad

kicking, and a CJ Mosley injury, the Jets look to bounce back this year and play spoiler to the Bills as they look to take over the division from the Patriots. The Bills have a superior roster on paper, that is clear. Jets though, will be hungry looking to make a statement and show the NFL they can compete. Jets pull a stunner and get redemption as Greg Williams and his defense carry the Jets.

Result: Jets Win (1-0)

Week 2: Home 49ers

Jets ride the high into week two, looking to face the 49ers as they travel to the east coast. Typically, teams traveling from the West Coast to the East struggle. This unfortunately isn’t the case for the Jets. The 49ers defense is just too much for a weak Jets offense and the Jets can’t keep up scoring.

Result: Jets Loss (1-1)

Week 3: At Colts

The Colts are a team built for success and it's evident from their leadership and front office down to the roster. Many Jets players are Colt cast offs. The Jets will be looking to bounce back from a home loss, but unfortunately, Gase has a history as well as the Jets for playing on the road. Rivers and the Colts are a playoff team and will be too much for the Jets.

Result: Jets Loss (1-2)

Week 4: Home Broncos

John Elway thinks he has finally found his successor to Peyton Manning at Quarterback with Drew Lock. He has provided Lock with something the Jets have not been able to and that is weapons. After drafting Cortland Sutton a few years ago, and now drafting Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Their offense looks primed for a breakout year. Not to mention Noah Fant, Melvin Gordon, Phillip Lindsey, and an impressive defense led by Von Miller. Broncos are in position to have a breakout year, they prove to be too much for the Jets. Added being a short week for the Jets and a Thursday night game, Jets get overpowered.

Result: Jets Loss (1-3)

Week 5: Home Cardinals

The NFC West is by far the best division in the NFL. Cardinals added Hopkins which gives Murray a legit number 1 WR. Simmons provides more versatility on defense for them which already had playmakers like Chandler Jones and Patrick Peterson. The Jets put on a show for the fans at home and Le’Veon Bell has his first 100 yard game for the Jets while putting up multiple scores.

Result: Jets Win (2-3)

Week 6: At Chargers

Jets have to travel to the West coast to play a Chargers team which is being led by Tyrod Taylor still at this point in the season. Jamal Adams has one of those games where he just plays out of his mind, showing everyone he is the top safety in the NFL out dueling Darwin James. The Jets offense holds its own and manages to put up enough points to pull off a victory.

Results: Jets Win (3-3)

Week 7: Home Bills

Unfortunately, this is when the schedule begins to pick up again for the Jets. They were able to pull off a stunner early in the year but Bills are just too hot at this point in time. Allen beats down the Jets but it’s not with his arm, it’s as a runner.

Result: Jets Loss (3-4)

Week 8: At Chiefs

No need to explain this one much. Mahomes. Result: Jets Loss (3-5)

Week 9: Home Patriots

The biggest question mark this upcoming season will be what and who the Patriots are.

No one knows if they are in rebuild mode, or if they are primed to continue their stronghold on the division. They continue to have a strong defense despite their key departures, but their offense is simply a mess. Bill and the Patriots are ultimately a better coached team and Gase just shows he’s the ultimate downfall for the Jets.

Result: Jets Loss (3-6)

Week 10: At Dolphins

Jets after a 3 game skid, travel down to Miami to play the Dolphins before their bye week. They are just too beat up at this point and the wheels are starting to fall off the bus. Articles are beginning to circulate blaming Darnold but he fan base is screaming for a coaching change at this point.

Result: Jets Loss (3-7)

Week 11: Bye

Look for Jets to Lock up Jamal Adams if they haven’t already by this point, making him the highest paid safety, while trying to supply a bright spot in a bleak season.

Week 12: Home Dolphins

Bounce back game following a bye week. Jets come back to home and are able to return the favor and take one from the Dolphins. Darnold has his best game of the season and Gase somehow no longer looks like an incompetent coach. This is Gase’s last ditch effort to retain his job and show he has what it takes to be the coach of this franchise.

Result: Jets Win (4-7)

Week 13: Home Raiders

Continuing their strong play and their back to back home games after a bye, another

West to East coast trip which favors the Jets. Raiders are still struggling to figure out what Gruden wants in a QB if it’s Carr or Mariota. Jets defense is just too strong, Q has his most dominant game as a Jet, having a multiple sack performance.

Result: Jets Win (5-7)

Week 14: At Seahawks

Jets come back down to earth, as Wilson picks apart a secondary which looks slow and

plays sloppy. Seahawks tear apart the Jets. Result: Jets Loss (5-8)

Week 15: At Rams

Jets somehow pull this one out of the slim scrapings possible left of their season to try to make a push for at least an 8-8 season. Jets hold it together long enough to pull off a win. Result: Jets Win (6-8)

Week 16: Home Browns

It seems the Browns have the Jets number. Jets can’t hold up to the likes of OBJ, Landry, Hooper, Hunt, Chubb, and Mayfield. Their offense is too powerful, their pass rush is too good and the Jets finally realize Fant and Edoga are not the answers for the RT position. Douglas realizes this team is still a year or two away from being where they need to be. He begins to make the necessary changes and evaluations to determine what he has next year.

Result: Jets Loss (6-9)

Week 17: At Patriots

Say it’s not so. The evil empire, nightmares of McGuire and the Jets winning late in the year against Buffalo causing them to miss out on Bosa. Jets don’t have that issue this year as Gase coaches his final game, and Bell plays his last in a Jets uniform. Jets lose to Bill and his minions and Jets lock up a top 5 pick for the 2021 draft.

Result: Jets Loss (6-10)

Summary: The ultimate downfall to the Jets 2020 season, is Jets have a much stronger schedule and are handcuffed by their incompetent coach. Their team is a year away from being a true competitor. With a top 5 pick in 2021, and a boat load of cap space, the Jets provide Douglas with the necessary things to look for to secure him a high end coach to help lead the franchise.

Added FA/Roster notes: I would love for the Jets to sign Larry Warford who was recently released from the Saints. With the T. Johnson contract clearing up more cap space, cutting Winters could give additional cap space necessary to sign him. I don’t see them making a push at Logan Ryan anymore. I could see additional moves being made for Vinny Curry and Matt Moore.
