IT'S DRAFT DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!

I've been watching the NFL Draft since 2000 when I watched the Jets draft John Abraham, Shaun Ellis, Chad Pennington, & Anthony Becht all in the 1st round & then Laveranues Coles in the 3rd. WOW what a draft that that helped shaped our beloved franchise for many years. Since then, I've seen some really good drafts, some decent drafts, & some real stinkers (The Idzik 12....YUCK).

This time last year my brother, brother-in-law, & myself were hanging out crushing Dominoes while we watched the Jets draft Quinnen Williams 3rd overall. We looked at each other & muttered out, "Best overall player in the draft", something Jets fans heard FAR too often with former GM Mike Maccagnan at the helm. But it's a new year with a new GM. I'm excited to see what Joe Douglas has up his sleeve. This is his first draft & a big one at that. As I stated in a previous article, this draft can help shape the Jets for years to come, like the '00 draft.

With the draft being mere hours away, there's a ton of rumors floating around there on social media (Good lord do I love Twitter). Some are legit while some are just smokescreen. It's tough to figure out which rumor is which. With that being said, here are the three scenarios that I can see happening tonight:

Scenario 1: One of the top 4 OT's (Becton/Thomas/Wills/Wirfs) is sitting their at 11 for the Jets to select, which they do. Now I don't know who the Jets have where on their big board, but if I have a guess, I think it looks something like this:

  1. Wirfs

  2. Thomas

  3. Wills

  4. Becton

Even if I'm nowhere close to being right, a lot of people are saying that it's a near lock that the Jets go OT if one is available.

Scenario 2: The Jets go WR at pick 11. There's A LOT of rumors right now that the Dolphins may select an OT with their 1st pick (They have so many picks, it makes me sick). Also, the Giants very well can take an OT at 4, Gettleman sure does love his "Hog Mollies". So that is two OT's gone with a few teams in the top 10 still looking at OT's (SD, AZ, CLE). You also have to factor in another team trading into the top 10 for an OT as well. If this happens, the Jets should get Franchise QB Sam Darnold a new toy to play with. If it was up to me, I'd go with CeeDee Lamb. I think he's the best out of the bunch & with rumors surfacing of Jerry Juedy's knee issues, I think Lamb has solidified himself as the #1 WR in the draft.

Scenario 3: The Jets trade back. If scenario 2 happens, JD may be working the phones looking to trade back to gain extra picks. Teams I can see him trading with are Denver, Atlanta, & potentially even the Eagles. If they trade back with the first two teams, they can still possibly get a WR like Henry Ruggs plus an extra 3rd & a 5th. However, if they trade back with the Eagles, they can get a nice return (#21/2nd/4th if I had to guess). That means 7 picks in the first 4 rounds, which is a ton of ammunition for JD to play with. At #21 he could go with Josh Jones & then possibly look to trade back into the 1st round (SF?) for either a WR (Higgins/Mims/Jefferson) or another OL (Ruiz). If the Jets come out of day 1 with two OL, that would be quite a first day for the first year GM.

I'm torn between which scenario I like most. All 3 have there positives to them & I can also see all three happening. If I had to pick, I'd go with scenario 3. The Jets get two starting OL in the 1st & still have picks in the next 3 round to get Darnold playmakers. This is SUCH a deep draft at WR. They can draft 2 WR's (need to draft at least two) between the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th rounds that can make an impact day 1.

So Jets fans, let's sit back, have a nice beverage, & pray that the Jets don't draft defense with their 1st pick. If that happens remember, my tv will be going through the window & no one wants that.......I hope. #TakeFlight
